The July 2017 Bar Exam: Repeat Bar Exam Takers: The Myths and Reality of Passing

Most law graduates are under the false impression that the more times you take a state bar exam the greater your changes are to passing

In fact, it is just the opposite. The more times you sit for a state bar, you decrease your chances of being successful.

The statistical proof is clear and convincing that repeat takers continuously do poorer on the bar exam than first time takers. Here are the hard facts:

In California, the February 2017 repeat taker pass rate was only 33%.

The Pennsylvania February 2017 bar results indicate that the first time takers passed at 72%. The second time takers pass rate was 53%, the third time taker pass rate was 32%.

In Oregon, first time takers passed at 74%, repeat takers pass rate was 57%

We can go any state and see that the repeat pass rate is so much lower than first time takers pass rates.

These statistical repeat taker numbers are a clear representation that repeat takers, on an average, only pass the bar exam at about a 35% rate – some states are even lower. Obtaining a bar exam tutor should be the number one goal for all repeat takers.

All of the states have released their bar exam results.  For those takers who have failed the bar exam, you will need a bar exam tutor to get you over the finish line.

It’s time to refocus again on the bar.  Taking the exam again will call for a change in approach, strategy, and preparation for you to pass that final hurdle in fulfilling your dream of becoming a lawyer. The July 2017 Bar Exam: Repeat Takers Cannot Repeat Their Rinse and Repeat Mistakes

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”  Albert Einstein

We are always amazed that students who fail the bar exam tell us that they are just going to retake their commercial bar exam course again.  Obviously, it did not help you pass the first time, why would you think that it will help you pass the next time or the third time or the fourth time?

Students must get out of the “rinse, repeat” mindset that made them fail the first time. Students cannot waste another bar cycle as they stand in place, hoping that this time it will work for them.

Don’t try the same method that allowed you to be unsuccessful on your previous attempt. Do not repeat the same class, study plan or approach you used the last time. One size does not fit all. Say to yourself, “I will be a lawyer, so I must change my approach.”

We ask our students, “what will happen if you don’t pass the bar exam this time?” “Where will you be in 1 year if you don’t pass the bar exam?”  Do you really what to be in the same situation a year from now?  Your job, your money, your home, your family will be in deep jeopardy if you waste another bar cycle doing the same rinse and repeat program.

You want to get the bar exam behind you and start your new life as a lawyer. Don’t dither or waste time with the “what ifs”. Stay focused and true to your goal to pass.

Obtaining a Bar Professors bar exam tutor will help you pass. Many students who are repeat bar takers need a bar exam coach to help them improve their writing and analytical skills so they can properly navigate through the bar exam. Remember, the bar exam is unique and more difficult to pass. This structured, personalized program is the key to passing the bar for repeat takers.

Above all, never give up.

The overall pass rate was 34.5%, the lowest pass rate since February 2009. The results may have been even lower because California, for the first time, stopped counting the applicants who failed to finish the exam.

The passage rate for retakers was a shockingly low 33 percent. In the reverse, 67% of all repeat takers failed!

Thee repeat failure rate was shockingly high. These failure rates say you need to get a California bar exam tutor.  Don’t do the same thing you did last time.  You need to pass the bar exam and get the California bar exam behind you.
