The February 2020 bar exam is 11 weeks away. For repeat takers, it’s time to start the study process. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s too early, or that you will burn yourself out. That’s not true. Start studying a couple of hours a day; small bites of the material, until you are ready to immerse yourself with your task. February will come around much, much faster than you think it will. Don’t sabotage your studies by waiting until the last minute. It doesn’t work that way. You only get better with work and practice.

Don’t forget we are seeing repeat takers fail rate at 65-75%. That’s because the exams are getting harder and, unfortunately, too few students are taking their job of passing the bar exam seriously. There is a lot of subjects to learn and review. You must put effort and stamina in your studies. This is not a passive review. You must work and you must work hard.

For repeat takers, if have taken the bar exam multiple times and are still not getting the results you want, think about getting a Bar Professors’ tutor. There is obviously something about the way you study or how you study that is not producing results for you. A Bar Professors’ tutor can set up a study plan with you, discuss areas of the bar exam materials that you are not getting and keep you motivated and less isolated.

Remember, you have much work to do and many subjects to master before the February bar exam.

Pass the Bar Exam and Stop Listening to Bad Advice

It’s quite surprising to hear law students uttering completely bad advice that they got from their school, their professors or their friends. Here are some of the bad advice that has been told as gospel:

Starting Too Early and Burning Yourself Out

You can never start too early and you can never burn yourself out. Your job is to learn and understand the law in your jurisdiction and there is a lot to learn. Moreover, the time goes quite quickly. If you get tired, take a few hours off, even a day off to recharge your batteries. If you start early, you can afford to take the few hours off. The earlier you start, the better off you will be.

If You Do Poorly, Sit Out a Bar Cycle

Why would anyone want to sit out a bar cycle? You do not need to sit out wasting time, you need to pass the bar exam as quickly as you can. None of us can afford to waste another 6 months just waiting. Further, sitting out a bar cycle will not enhance your ability to pass or to even study.

Study Rule Definitions Only and Recite them Perfectly

Many law students think that they only need to memorize rule definitions in order to pass the bar exam. That is a false assumption. Of course, you need to know the elements of the law, but the facts are what drives the analysis. And that factual analysis is what will ensure that you pass the bar exam.

Read Outlines All Day, Practice Just A Little – A Waste of Time for Repeat Takers

Yes, it is important to read outlines so that you understand the law, however, you need to practice a lot of essays and MBE to ensure that you understand the law and its application.

Bar Professors are experts and we work only with repeat takers. If you are a repeat taker, please contact us to learn about our P.A.S.S. system.

Most law students fail the bar exam for three major reasons:

They revert back to bad writing habits developed in law school

Under the pressures of the bar exam, many students revert back to bad habits. These bad habits allowed them to graduate from law school, but will be the kiss of death on the bar. Some of the bad habits include, not organizing your answer, no line by line analysis and not answering the call of the question.

Bar Professors will assign you essays and MBE and will correct the bad habits that prevent you from passing.

Poor Preparation and Time Management

Many law students start their bar preparation entirely too late, leaving most in a rush mode. For the upcoming February 2020 bar, your preparation should start. You should allow yourself 5 to 6 hours per day for studying. But more importantly, studying correctly is the key. You need to write and answer many essays and MBE questions. Your answers must be evaluated by Bar Professors.

Bar Professors will put you on a schedule and monitor your progress.

They don’t really believe that they will pass

You must have a belief that you will pass. Get rid of all negative thoughts, people and things. You must truly believe that you will pass. You must say this every single day prior to the bar and you must have the confidence to succeed.

Bar Professors will help grow your confidence and your belief that you will pass.
